Book Summary
Laura Ingalls and her family are leaving their home in the Big Woods of Wisconsin and heading for a new start on the prairie. They travel by covered wagon all the way from Wisconsin to Oklahoma Territory until they find the perfect spot to build their new home. Life for Laura is fun, with lots of time to spend outdoors, running the grassy hills, going fishing, and listening to Pa play his fiddle. There's also lots of hard work to be done, helping Ma keep the house neat and tidy, tending the garden and their animals, and keeping up with their lessons at home, as there was no school close enough for Laura and her sister Mary to attend.
Laura's childhood adventures tell the story of an important time in American history in an up-close and personal way that makes the past come alive.
Please note that this book is a product of the time and mindset of when it was written. It contains significant, outdated, and racist depictions of Native Americans and others, occasional violence, themes of colonialism and the exploitation of Native Americans, their land and cultures.
