Third Thursday Tales invites families to discover delightful twists on classic stories and engage in lively discussions. This is a family friendly event, but geared toward children in early elementary.
Each month, we'll begin by sharing the original Three Little Pigs, followed by an adaptation with funny, modern, or unexpected twists. After the stories, children can test their own architectural skills with open play using a variety of building manipulatives.
Retelling stories is a great way to help children build background knowledge and comprehension. Children then have the opportunity to compare – What’s the same? What’s different? This kind of analysis encourages deeper understanding and critical thinking. Taking a story they know well and changing it just a little will encourage their engagement in discussion. Fairytales and folk tales are a perfect opportunity for this practice.
